Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Bassam Sabbagh, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Bassam Sabbagh, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic.  

They exchanged views about challenges facing Syrians.  

The Secretary-General expressed hope for greater progress with the UN-facilitated political process mandated by Security Council resolution 2254 (2015).  

The Secretary-General also expressed concern over the growing humanitarian needs throughout Syria. He underlined that he counted on continued cooperation and pledged to ensure that the much-needed assistance reaches all Syrians in need throughout the country.
